Our Story
Sense of Place
A fine, lightweight crystal stemware collector and enthusiastic user for years, our founder was never quite satisfied with the glassware produced by others. Each glass had certain advantages while also having certain disadvantages for different wines. Even those touted to be universal glasses, they often allowed too much air and aroma escape to truly enjoy over a longer period of time when in glass. A chemist and scientist by training, our founder decided to design the best glass in order to bring out every wine’s Sense of Place. Hence, the acronym SoP has dual meanings both Sense of Place and Standard Operating Procedure, an ode to work in a lab on new discoveries. Through intuition and experimentation, we designed a completely new type of glass, one that truly brings every varietal to its fullest potential. There has never been a true universal glass such as this before. A design that allows for the appropriate evolution of wine or spirits in the glass without over-oxidizing certain varietals. Our glass functions just like a personal decanter for your pour which allows you to experience the best of both worlds—drinking it immediately if you so choose or over a longer period of time, following its evolution in the glass.
Sense of Place glassware aims to create a more immersive and meaningful wine-drinking experience by connecting the drinker to the origin and terroir of the wine through their own senses. Delivering a true Sense of Place to every wine or spirit inside. This concept aligns with the growing interest in terroir-driven wines and the desire to connect with the stories behind the beverages we consume.
But we didn’t stop there. Tradition and technology come together in our glasses. The art of hand-blown glassware is an age old technique only able to be done by the most skilled glassblowers. Often these glasses can be quite fragile due to their handmade nature and featherlight construction. We blend our lead-free crystal glass with a natural and inert super-strength non-toxic metal for added durability, resistance to scratching, and ease of care in the dishwasher. Designed in the USA. Made in Europe in a family-owned glassworks in operation for over 200 years.
